Chorus 1
“So please
Don’t let no doubts in you
I won’t let you go too soon
Don’t make me take this love and all and waste it on you, girl
Don’t you wish you had me there
Baby, nobody compares
Baby, you won’t know until my afterimage disappears”
In the context of this song, the subject of desire will never know how she feels about him until he has left. Once he is gone, his afterimage will appear. She will then realize that she wants him however it will already be too late.
Chorus 2
“You’ll see me
Like I’m right there next to you
On the other side of this room
Now you made me take this love and all and waste it on you, girl
See you wish you had me there
Baby, nobody compares
Baby, you won’t know until my afterimage disappears.”
This part of Afterimage describes someone who thinks her lover is on the other side of the room but its simply just his Afterimage.
She wasted his time and love, and now he is not in her reality; just the mere thought of him remains, his afterimage.
